A photo from one of my first trips away from Perth, taken in 2005 on the mid north coast of Western Australia in a small fishing / surfing / holiday town called Kalbarri. With a big swell running and some amazing waves these dolphins managed to steal the show with their wave riding ability.

This wave in the states far south is a perfect example of the power the ocean can produce. Cyclops, what is regarded to be one of the worlds most heavy and dangerous waves. While this day out there was quite tame I returned around 3 weeks after with a much larger swell. That day Cyclops put my friend in hospital for 3 days with a concussion, in excess of 50 stitches and bruising to his spine. A lesson learned, with the amount of water and the proximity of the reef, this is not for the faint hearted.

This photo literally scares me. Taken in January 2008 at Cyclops near esperance in Western Australia. These were by far the biggest waves i have seen in my life. While too big to surf, we sat out there for hours just watching the most amazing waves. If you look closely in the bottom right hand corner in the image you can see the shallow rock bottom of the wave. While there is nothing to judge the size in the photo I am not exaggerating when I say that you could fit a large 4wd in the barrel of this wave.
